What exactly do we do?
Support families and Individuals who struggle with financial hardship to buy food at a price they can afford. This can include Free Crisis Parcels, Menu Advice, Cooking Demonstrations, Money Advice, Providing more Energy Efficient Cooking Equipment, Monthly money management drop-in sessions and signposting to other support people may need.
How do we do it?
We run a Social Supermarket located in Poole for individuals and families to become members of and use when they need to. We rely on volunteers to help run the supermarket and are committed to providing skills in the form of training, qualifications and confidence where required to some of those volunteers so they can return to the workplace. We currently work with Tesco, Co-Op and M&S to give volunteers job trials.
Why do we do it?
The cost of living crisis has only worsened the existing hardship for many Individuals and Families in the BCP area and we are seeing a much greater need for affordable food. We understand that the need is not always the cause, and we believe it is vital to take time to understand people’s situation and help the most vulnerable regain confidence and give them a chance to thrive.
We assist and care for marginalised individuals by decreasing social isolation and loneliness, promoting dignity, alleviating food scarcity and financial distress, and minimising food waste.
We offer a variety of Drop-in sessions, these do not require booking and are open to any of our members. Members can also book a number of other sessions for help with food, clothing and equipment needed to live efficiently.
